Jackie McLean produzierte in den Jahren 1959 bis 1967 nicht weniger als 21 Platten für das Blue Note Label. Sein Bop orientierter Stil am Alt-Saxophon ist für Kenner an wenigen Tönen zu erkennen und gerade in den frühen Jahren, bevor er sich dem Free Jazz widmete war Jackie McLean einer der wichtigsten Saxophonisten im Jazz geschehen.

Das Album Capuchin Swing aus dem Jahr 1960 wurde damals zwar als gut, jedoch noch nicht als wegweisend eingeschätzt. Erst in den späteren Jahren wurde es als ein Glanzstück seiner Karriere erkannt. Es spielen in dieser Aufnahme außerdem Blue Mitchell (Trompete), Walter Bishop Jr. (Piano), Paul Chambers (Bass) und Art Taylor (Schlagzeug). Capuchin Swing ist eine wunderbare Mischung aus schnellen und mittelschnellen Nummern und die Zusammenarbeit mit Mitchell an der Trompete gilt als unerreicht.

Diese Veröffentlichung ist Teil einer Serie von insgesamt 25 Hybrid-SACDs mit den Highlights des Blue Note Kataloges an Jazz Giganten. Alle Titel wurden von den analogen Bändern aus dem Blue Note Archiv in Stereoversion überspielt und bei Analogue Productions in Kalifornien neu gemastert. Schon die CD-Spur zeigt sich früheren Re-Masters und auch den Original LPs aus den 50er Jahren deutlich überlegen.
