Aus dem geschätzten Black-Jazz-Katalog einen Favoriten herauszupicken fällt schwer.
Diese Veröffentlichung des Bassisten Henry »The Skipper« Franklin von 1972 gehört aber ganz nach oben auf die Liste.

Franklin begann Mitte der 60er Jahre beim Latin-Außenseiter Willie Bobo und spielte später bei The Three Sounds.
Sein bemerkenswertester Auftritt vor diesem Debütalbum war die Zeit in der Band von Hugh Masekela, unter anderem 1967 beim Monterey Pop Festival.

Für »The Skipper« stellte Franklin eine erstklassige Besetzung zusammen.
Dazu gehören Trompeter Oscar Brashear, Saxophonist Charles Owens und Masekela-Bandkollege Bill Henderson am elektrischen Piano.
