Live At WOMAD 1982 dokumentiert Peter Gabriels historischen Auftritt beim allerersten WOMAD Festival, das vom 16. bis 18. Juli 1982 auf dem Gelände der Royal Bath and West Show in Somerset stattfand.

Die Aufnahme zeigt Gabriel in einer spannenden Übergangsphase: Viele der live gespielten Songs erschienen erst zwei Monate später auf seinem vierten Soloalbum. Diese 2-LP-Ausgabe erscheint auf 180g Vinyl im Gatefold Cover und enthält ein Etching auf Seite D.

Beschreibung
Das erste WOMAD Festival entstand aus der Idee, Musik und Kunst aus aller Welt eine große Bühne zu geben – abseits des Mainstreams und jenseits klassischer Festival-Schubladen. Vom 16. bis 18. Juli 1982 traten auf dem Bath and West Showground in Somerset zahlreiche Künstler aus verschiedenen Ländern und Stilrichtungen auf.

Peter Gabriels Auftritt am Freitagabend im Showering Pavilion war ein besonderer Moment dieses Festivals. Das Set bestand aus älteren Stücken und damals brandneuem Material, darunter sieben Songs, die wenig später auf Peter Gabriel 4 erscheinen sollten. Damit ist Live At WOMAD 1982 nicht nur ein Livealbum, sondern auch ein spannendes Zeitdokument kurz vor einem wichtigen Kapitel in Gabriels Solokarriere.

Begleitet wurde Peter Gabriel von David Rhodes an der Gitarre, John Giblin am Bass, Larry Fast an den Synthesizern, Jerry Marotta am Schlagzeug, Peter Hammill an Gitarre und Gesang sowie der Bristol-basierten Trommel- und Tanzgruppe Ekomé. Die Aufnahme verbindet Rock, Art-Pop, Rhythmus, Weltmusik-Einflüsse und die besondere Atmosphäre eines Festivals, das später Musikgeschichte schreiben sollte.
